Rumbler
From Sokka's POV

I watched Toph's back move farther away from me, and I tiptoed as lightly as I could to the next nearest boulder.  I should've known that I was gonna get it when she found out it was me stalking her, but I guess I wasn't thinking clearly because I kept following her.

The thick grass that covered the ground did give me an advantage; Toph couldn't "see" as well with it.  But that didn't mean I was safe or anything.

She occasionally would turn around and tilt her head, listening, but I would always freeze and hold my breath until she continued walking again.

I finally got close enough to put my plan into action.  I walked slowly and quietly up behind Toph, raised my arms, opened my mouth...

The earth under my feet gave a mighty rumble.  A pillar of rock shot out of the ground, grew at lightning speed, and rammed me right in the gut.

"Ha!" Toph yelled in triumph.  "Got you, stalker!"

I doubled over, wheezing and gripping my stomach, and squeezed my eyes shut to keep the tears of pain under control.  After all, it wasn't manly to cry when a girl kicks your butt.  I felt another rumble.  "Toph!" I gasped.  "It's me!  Sokka!"

"Snoozles?"  Toph rose out of her defensive crouch, and the column of rock sank back into the earth.  She reached out, and felt my head, which was the only thing pointed her direction as I gagged with my hands on my knees.  "Oh, badgermoles, Snoozles!  What were you doing sneaking up on me?  I didn't know it was you!  I could have killed you!  I'm - I'm s- sorry.  I didn't mean-"

I shook my head the whole time she was speaking, but I had forgotten that she couldn't see it.  Lately, it seemed as though I was forgetting her blindness a lot more often.  I picked my manliness out of the dirt, brushed it off, and straightened up.  "It's fine, Toph.  I'm ok.  No big deal."

"What on earth were you doing?" she asked again.

I smiled, and took her hand.  "It's your birthday, and I wanted to surprise you, but seeing as you can see even with your eyes closed and whatnot, I had to be creative.  And I wanted to see you jump 10 feet in the air when I was the first person to ever catch you off-guard."  I leaned down, and my lips brushed Toph's.  She blinked.  "Happy birthday, sweetheart."

Toph grinned, and it lit up her sightless eyes.  "Thanks, Sokka."  She rose on her tiptoes, but she still couldn't reach my face.  Even at 18, she was still more than a head shorter than me; the height difference between us had basically stayed the same thoughout the years.

I was about to lean down, to close the distance between our lips, but the ground gave a slight rumble again, and a platform of rock just big enough for her to stand on sprouted under her feet, lifting her a good six inches higher.  Our lips met.

I never knew I could love a rumbler so much.  But I did.  I loved a rumbling earthbender.  And a beautiful one at that.
This is my first ever Tokka Week and I am SO excited! I just finished my work on Zutara Week and if you wanna look at that stuff, feel free. I'll put up the link later; I don't have a lot of time right now.

I don't own Toph or Sokka. But I am lucky enough to own a tiny bit of Tokka seeing as I am a fangirl!

~guyw1tn0nam3 said that they were interested to know why Toph didin't know it was Sokka behind her (which is actually a really good point that I didn't really think about!) In my little imagination, because Toph is an earthbender she can't see with the ground as well when it is covered with grass or something alive because she is not, say, a lifebender or bloodbender. She kinda sensed that someone was behind her, but because the life in the grass hindered her vision, she couldn't see that it was Sokka.
Another reason for that: I was originally gonna have Toph breakdown a little because it frustrates her when she can't see, and she could have seriously injured Sokka or even killed him because it is insanely hard to aim when you can't see (anyone who has ever shot a gun or a bow and arrow will know what I'm talking about). But I decided against this idea cuz I wanted this story to be light and not too deep, and that conversation between them would have gotten into some not-light things. At the end of Tokka Week, I may upload the deep version or something... let me get through my second Avatar Couple Week in a row without me breaking down first. :)
Still, none of the above truly explained why Toph didn't guess that it was Sokka... maybe she was too wrapped up in her thoughts about a certain meat and sarcasm guy to really pay attention to what was happening... If anyone wants to share their interpretations, feel free! I would love to hear what you guys think! That's one wonderful thing about being an author: you don't always know every detail, as if your stories have minds and hearts of their own.

Wow, if that wasn't long-winded! Sorry for the rant!
